Why Email Is Still the #1 Attack Vector

Cybercriminals continue to rely on email as their preferred method of gaining access to businesses—and for good reason. Even with today's advanced spam filtering and security tools, email remains the most common entry point for cyberattacks.

One of the fastest-growing threats is Business Email Compromise (BEC). These attacks are carefully planned and often appear completely legitimate. Instead of sending obvious phishing emails, attackers research organizations, impersonate trusted vendors, executives, or business partners, and wait for the right opportunity to send a convincing request. Common examples include fake invoices, requests to update payment information, or urgent wire transfer instructions.

While modern security solutions can detect many threats, no technology is perfect. The strongest defense combines layered email security with informed, vigilant users who know what warning signs to look for.

Quick Security Tip

Never process an urgent payment request or banking change based solely on an email. Always verify the request through a separate communication method, such as a known phone number or an existing contact—not the information provided in the email.

How We Can Help

Protecting your organization starts with understanding your current risks. We can review your email security configuration, evaluate your existing protections, and discuss email security awareness testing and training options to help reduce the risk of successful phishing and Business Email Compromise attacks.

If you'd like to learn more or schedule a security review, we'd be happy to help.
